From Juncalito With Love
is a municipal district in Jánico, is located in the Cordillera Central at an altitude of over 1,000 meters above sea level (3,290 feet), 59 kilometers from the city of Santiago de los Caballeros. Is an old community, this place was chosen by its founders for having conditions for agricultural production. Although landforms hinder the process of urbanization, the population has grown quite Juncalito due to the many positive factors such as the weather holds, and that there is a low contamination level in this community.
The Juncalito borough has a population of approximately 8,000 people, of which over 60% live in the communities surrounding the town. Juncalito population is relatively young.
Juncalito has a pleasant climate and mountain scenery, ideal place to enjoy fully the nature of the Cordillera Central. Juncalito geography is mountainous with very few plains.
Near the village is located the Cacique peak with a height of 1,500 meters above sea level. In addition to its beautiful mountain scenery, their lands are washed by the waters of Gurabo and Jagua rivers, the latter visited by local people and other peoples.
The main source of the economy in Juncalito is agriculture, its main product is coffee that takes advantage of favorable conditions, such as altitude and cool climate of the mountains. This is one of the most important coffee zone of the country, producing one of the best coffees in the world, where there are about 1,500 coffee producers between large, medium and small, which reach an output of up to 50,000 quintals a year. Besides coffee, Juncalito also produce in a minor range, other products, mostly for domestic consumption.
Juncalito’s coffee has gained fame in specialty markets. The characteristics of mild coffee, tart, full-bodied, balanced, intense bouquet and flavor reminiscent of citrus fruits and forest make Juncalito’s coffee a gourmet coffee. In addition, Juncalito’s Coffee has been awarded more than once in the national competitions organized by the quality CODOCAFE.
